Below are sample pages from two essays after editing and proofreading. In this ‘All Markup’ view, the editor’s suggested changes can be seen in red, and the editor’s comments are on the right hand side.
We send simple, easy-to-understand instructions with your returned document, explaining how to approve the editor’s changes and comments in MS Word.
In this example, the client had commented “I have been told that I repeat myself and use unnecessary words; please improve grammar and make the writing clear and straightforward”. The editor has therefore edited to make the sentence structure simpler (for example, by eliminating the passive voice in the first sentence) and has removed examples of wordiness like “Due to the fact that” in the third paragraph.

In the example below, the client had commented “I’m afraid I often use language that is too informal. Please improve word choice to make the writing sound more academic”. The editor has therefore made changes that contribute to a more formal tone, by eliminating colloquial word choice. For instance, “has got much faster” is changed to “has rapidly accelerated”, and “Besides, it’s not easy to get across meaning when you can’t see” is changed to “Additionally, it is difficult for a speaker to convey meaning when they cannot see”.
